Cafe Chad

Café Chad which was founded in May 2012, is a not-for-profit service which provides a community meeting place in a welcoming café setting, where people from the local area are able to meet and to purchase a range of good quality, affordable food and ‘Fair Trade’ drinks, whilst finding friendship and support. It is run entirely by volunteers and the cakes are made and donated by volunteer cake-makers, on a rota basis.

Café Chad is not just about a cup of coffee; it aims to provide a safe environment where people of all ages feel welcomed and valued and are able to make friends and maintain those friendships. The service also provides work ‘tasters’ and training for people with a disability. This helps to increase confidence and self-esteem and provides an understanding, in a safe environment, of real work.

The café also raises money for local and national charities, either by donating funds from sales or by holding quarterly ‘specials’ where local people are encouraged to display and sell their crafts or raise awareness of community services.

Alongside the Café there is a Computer Corner providing help and secure access to the Internet with copying and photographing services for things such as bus passes, passports, time tables, local and government websites  etc, etc. Arts, crafts, local police and councillors’  information sessions & IT training are also arranged from time to time.

Books and toys with space for children to play is always provided and all ages are made to feel welcome in two comfortable rooms with various height seating and tables.

The café is open from 09.15–12.30 every Monday and Wednesday.
